14 years ago today, I married the man of my dreams....my best friend!! And I would do it all over again, no hesitation!!
Oh, my, we were so young and may I say "dumb"? It makes me laugh to think how we thought we had it all together back then! :) Nevertheless, it was a day of memories that I will cherish forever!
We weren't allowed to have flowers in the sanctuary, so I carried a Bible instead! :) Back in those years a lot of the brides in our churches would make a lacey handkerchief out of their wedding dress material to carry under the Bible, but I didn't do that. I think it was starting to "go out of style". :P
Dan with his groomsmen. From left to right...Dan, my brother Darrin, Dan's brother Sam and Myron Miller, Dan's good friend from the year he was in OH.
Me and my bridesmaids...from left to right....Esther, Dan's sister, Me, Karen (Brubaker) Meulenberg and Darlene (Sensenig) Weaver, both good friends from school/church.
My sister Lisa and I made all our wedding bouquets with fake flowers. :) As you can tell, my wedding colors were lavender and pink. I really am not sure why since pink was never a favorite color for me. I think it had a lot to do with the colors of material I could get to match my wedding material!
Dan's family :)
L to R. Sam Sr. (Dad), Miriam, Dan, Sam, Me, Esther, and Janet (Mom)
My family...if you think it was big then, add about 26 more people and that would be my family today!! :)
My nieces and nephews at the time....2 more were about to be born!
We did not have a catered meal. We (Mom and I and my sisters) made most of the food ourselves and then had these cooks take care of getting it all prepared that day.
These girls job was to keep everyone's water filled. :)
Jeanette Kolb, Amelia Martin, Jenn Kolb and Stella Martin
The gift receivers~ Krista Martin, Carita Zook, Rhoda Witmer and Carol Lehman
These were our waiter and waitresses. We had rows of long tables set up and one couple took care of one row of tables.
These were Dan's students. Yes, he taught 7th and 8th grade at Lebanon Valley Christian School when we got married. That is what brought him up from GA to my area....and how we met! :)
So while he sometimes wonders why he ever was a school teacher, I am thankful he was!! :)
Our only living Grandparents at the time of our wedding. My Dad's parents are on my left, Paul & Eleanor Horst. They both passed away about 5-6 years ago. Dan's Grandma, Miriam Gehman had just lost her husband about 2 weeks before our wedding. She passed away a few years ago, too.
The morning of our wedding, we were going to have pictures taken outside, but Hurricane Bertha was gracing the east coast with her rain and wind, so a week after we got back from our honeymoon, we took pictures at Lantern Lodge in Myerstown, PA. However, since our Bridal party ranged from OH, to GA, we were not able to get the whole bridal party back together.
Probably one thing I regret the most, was not having a professional photographer do our wedding! We had one lined up, but then he found out his niece was getting married the same day and of course family took priority. I'm not sure why we didn't try someone else, but that's history! :)
I am still thankful for the memories that were captured that day! :)
